Hey Folks,

As the deadline is creeping ever closer, the pressure is certainly setting in. In truth, it has been a while since I've had a sound night sleep.

Nonetheless, I'm proud that I haven't given up or thrown in the towel, still going strong!

It's not easy staying so strong though!

However, as the hand in draws near, these blogs are going to get shorter I'm afraid!

This week, was the last week texturing the crocodile shaman, so I was nearly there. With most of the textures blocked in, this week I devoted to polishing the character.

It was great to have gotten the skin and the crocodile pelt complete.

I started the week, adding hues to the facial features, after wards I moved onto to polishing the smaller assets such as the arm bands ropes and straps.

With this complete, I went to work on the fabrics, at first I didn't get the correct hues on her face that I had liked, and as a result I needed to refine into it a lot more, this meant getting the base colour correct and making sure that it complements the areas of interest. when complete, I began working on the adding details to the folds.

Afterwards I moved onto working on the crab shoulder armour and arm guard. It was quite fun to work on these elements, especially as I was able to learn a lot about the surface properties of these animals in the process. I used the marble smart material in substance as an overlay to add some interesting contrast.

When complete, I set up my character scene together in marvellous designer. At first the scene was very dark and my character did not retain the same areas of interest as the seen in the sculpt.

This was very frustrating for a while.

However, with the help of my peer Chris Lonsdale, I was able to set up this seen of my character. With this, I could finally call this character done for now.

I am totally aware that this character still needs a lot more polishing before I can call her done, however I have learnt a lot from this character:

  • PBR Skin texturing

  • Hues on the body

  • Animal textures in PBR: namely crocodile skin

  • Subsurface scattering and translucency maps

  • Creating animal assets.

  • Female anatomy

  • Turtle shells

  • Texturing hair in PBR

  • Levels of detail: silhouette, main and small

The list could go on but these are the ones which are the most important lessons I’ve learnt from the project.

I will be continuing this character after hand-in, but I am glad that I’ve gotten this far with the project!
